The Avo Shack

For event organisers

Invite us to trade.

Running a festival, market or music event and want us on the site? Tell us about it below. Rough dates and a rough crowd size are enough to start.

Not an organiser? If you want us to cater a wedding, work event or private party, use the catering form below instead — different questions, different answers.

Dates

Check our availability

See where you stand before you write anything. Festival season books out a long way ahead — if your date shows as taken, ask anyway. We run several setups and can sometimes cover both.

Private catering

Get an instant catering quote

Weddings, corporate days, parties and anything else where you’re paying for the food rather than selling us a pitch. Fill in what you know — rough dates and guest numbers are enough.

After you hit send

What happens next.

Four steps, and you can stop at any of them without owing us anything.

  1. We read it and check your dates against what’s already booked. If we can’t do it, you’ll know quickly rather than in a fortnight.
  2. You get a written reply with what we’d run — a menu and a price for catering, or our questions about the pitch and the deal for an event.
  3. If you want changes, we revise it. Swapping dishes or changing the trading model doesn’t restart anything.
  4. To lock the date in, accept and pay the deposit. The balance is due before bump-in.

In a hurry? Email us and we’ll come straight back to you.

Questions

Common questions.

If yours isn’t here, put it in the form — we answer everything, including the ones that end with us saying we’re not the right fit.

How far in advance should we book?

Festival season books out a long way ahead, so if your date is in peak summer, earlier is genuinely better. For private events we can often turn a booking around in a few weeks. Either way, ask — we run several setups and can sometimes cover a date that looks taken.

What’s the deal for event organisers?

Whatever your event runs on. We trade on a flat site fee, a percentage of sales, or a free pitch, and we’ve done all three. Tell us which one you’re offering in the form above and we’ll tell you straight away whether it works for us.

What does private catering cost?

It depends on numbers, site and how long we’re there, so we don’t publish a per-head figure that would be wrong for most people. What we do is give you one number with everything in it — staff, travel, equipment and packaging — rather than a low headline with a page of extras underneath.

Do you travel outside Melbourne?

Yes, regularly — regional Victoria and interstate for festivals. Travel and accommodation are costed transparently. For a big site a long way out, there’s more detail on how we handle large and remote sites.

What power and water do you need?

Tell us what the site has and we’ll work to it. We can run off mains, or arrive fully self-sufficient with our own generator and water. It just needs to be planned rather than discovered on the day.

Can you handle vegan, vegetarian and allergies?

Vegan and vegetarian, absolutely — they’re on the menu in their own right rather than adapted on the day. Allergies we take seriously enough to be honest about: tell us in advance and we’ll explain exactly what we can guarantee in a stall environment and what we can’t.

Are you insured and certified?

Yes. Public liability, a food safety program, food-handling certification for everyone on the line and a food safety supervisor on site. Certificates and permits go to your event manager ahead of time as a pack, not on the day at the gate.

Can you do a late-night feed after a reception?

It’s one of our favourite jobs. The shack rolls out around 11pm, wraps and fries come off the line hot, and it’s consistently the thing guests message about the next day.

Do you do drinks or a bar?

Non-alcoholic only — cold-pressed juices, iced teas and slushies, plus a barista coffee cart as an add-on. We don’t hold a liquor licence, but we work alongside whoever does all the time.

Rather just talk?

Email us with the date and rough numbers and we’ll come straight back to you.
